The column that says dinner again with Giuseppe Ungaro was a pleasure, although the former sports editor and consummate Sixers fan kept checking his phone to see if Okafor has been traded before the Thursday deadline, and the waitress was half Italian and she squealed with delight to find out his first name, “as Italian as you can get.”

Good evening!

“It’s with great sadness I have to pass along the passing of my friend, Jim Williams.

“I didn’t mention him often, but he was a blast to hang out with discussing sports and local events. He will be missed.”

— Steve Tatz,

WVLT

Nobody said it was fatal for the Cumberland County College sports announcer!

Missed?

Hell, he was a sports icon!

Wait until Stu Berman hears about this!

He spent the last year in hospitals and rehab!

Godspeed, Jim!

“I would hit you up or vice versa just to touch base and see how you were coming along.

“The last time being last week, we agreed to chat this upcoming weekend to go over the NBA trades and other such sports news as we always did as long as you were up to it.

“The last year, you fought hard and we all know how bad you wanted to get back to doing games and your normal life. Through it all, you kept a smile on your face and was just as pleasant every time we chatted.

“You once told me it was exciting, watching you run all over the court like a mad man. You would tell me often, no offense, Chappius, but I never seen a white guy as short as you who could jump like that.

“We would both laugh and you would go, no, seriously, it’s pretty awesome. I said I wish we had announcers and commentators at our track meets because I would have loved to hear you say my last name with the flare you would call it with.

“I don’t know many people who were kinder, more genuine and sincere then you, my friend! You’re enthusiasm for sports and great debates will be missed.

“I can speak for many people when I say your friendship and great smile will be missed, buddy! You will forever be the voice of the CC Dukes. My prayers and thoughts are with your family and close friends.

“Rest easy, brother! Hope you’re at peace now! Another young life gone too soon!

Driving by DiLisi’s tonight, the parking lot was loaded for their 15 percent benefit, this time for a cancer fighter.

The Longhorn was overflowing.

The Roadhouse was overflowing.

The question is, do both pay enough taxes to overcome the customers they take away form locally owned establishments?

From Yelp:

Tio Santos, 649 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton

“I’m always on the lookout for some good Mexican food and I stumbled upon this place on Yelp while I was in the area today, and decided to stop in and check it out. Happy that I did!

“Ordered a couple beef tacos with cilantro, onions, tomatoes & sour cream and also had some pork tamales — everything was absolutely delicious (the tortillas alone were amazing!).

“What was really amazing here was the flan. Oh my goodness, this was honestly some of the best flan I’ve ever had.  Not too sweet, not mushy; it was just right.  Place was clean and staff was friendly.  I’ll definitely be returning!”

— Monroeville

Never heard of the place and never heard of flan in the New Bridgeton.

Steven Paul, head of Bridgeton Main Street, keeps telling us to push local.

Another review …

“I love Tio Santos.  I always get the same thing — Chicken Alambre and large Guacamole and chips.  And occasionally tacos.  I feel it is a tad pricey for a small mom and pop joint.  Definitely worth it though!”

— Millville

“This authentic Mexican restaurant is the real deal. From their selection of juices and drinks to the extensive menu, we were completely satisfied.

“You are greeted with a small  basket of tortilla chips and three types of homemade sauces.  For lunch, I had the flautas platter which comes with 5 small flautas with cheese, crema, and lettuce.

“Flautas come with a choice of chicken or cheese. My wife had 3 tacos al pastor.  Very delicious with the standard accompaniment of cilantro and onions. They also serve breakfast all day long. My son had the French toast.

“A great choice for Mexican food.”

— Cherry Hill

“I really can’t think of one bad thing to say about Tio Santos. You can find some of the best tacos in Bridgeton here.

The service is always friendly and polite, and the prices fair.

My usual order is one chorizo taco, one taco de cabeza, and one taco surtido, which is basically different parts of the pig , as well as a jarrito de piña (pineapple soda.)

The meat is good quality and well-seasoned. I recommend getting them the traditional Mexican way topped with cilantro and onions, squeezing some lime over everything, and adding some hot sauce. You can’t go wrong. I also love their horchata.

The  restaurant and bathroom have always been spotless, and I’ve been here about  10 times now.

Sit on folded chairs.

If you want traditional Mexican food with a smile,  I would  highly recommend  Tio Santos.

By the way, cash only.

— Washington Township

“I love Tex Mex places like Moe’s and Chipotle. This is not one of those places. You can’t compare them at all. Tio’s is authentic Mexican food. Excellent food and I love the spicy green salsa! It is a little pricey in my opinion.

“I usually spend $12-$13 for lunch. Cash only as far as I know. There can be a bit of a language barrier so I just always pay in cash.”

— Bridgeton

Gotta push Tio Santos, Steven Paul!
